Summer in the Music Business Management
Work in the music industry doesn’t stop for the summer — it simply changes shape. Much of it happens more quietly, behind the scenes, and often with extra care to respect others’ holiday rhythms. That’s what summer in the music business management is really about: staying active, adaptive, and intentional, even when the spotlight temporarily dims.
This season has been a great reminder of that.
Just yesterday, I had the chance to be part of a meeting at the legendary Tavastia Club — freshly reopened after a summer renovation. It was a real pleasure to sit down in person and exchange thoughts with Juhani Merimaa, long-time owner of Tavastia, and Mick Köppe, booking agent at ASS Concerts. Getting to discuss ideas face-to-face in such a historic venue — right after its renewal — reminded me how valuable live encounters still are in today’s fast-paced music industry.

Throughout the summer, we’ve kept the wheels turning. One ongoing collaboration is with artist Hanna-Maaria Tuomela — and our meetings, whether remote or in-person, continue throughout the year as part of ongoing artist management. We meet whenever needed, adjusting strategies and responding to new developments in real time. This summer was no exception. We connected over Teams to reflect on current goals and fine-tune plans for what’s ahead. In the photo below, we’re discussing production-related topics together with film composer Timothy Williams, whose insight and experience added a valuable layer to our conversation.

Summer as a Strategic Season
The quieter pace of summer allows for high-quality planning. In music business management, these moments are ideal for reviewing how collaborations work, updating expectations, and preparing for the busier months to come.
That’s what we’ve focused on: refining the way we work, streamlining communication, and setting up structures that support long-term growth.
Hanna-Maaria had a strong run of performances across Central Europe this summer — building visibility and momentum for what’s next. New music is already on the horizon, and we’re excited about how her story is evolving.
At the same time, I’ve been preparing for the upcoming Music Business Management Course for Everyone, launching this fall. I’m proud to say that Juhani Merimaa, Mick Köppe, and Timothy Williams are part of the already strong guest lineup — with several other exciting names confirmed as well. Their combined experience across live music, international booking, and film composition offers a powerful foundation for learning that bridges creativity and real-world strategy.
